Fed: Lawrence says she considered quitting politics over Tampa
Labor backbencher CARMEN LAWRENCE says she seriously considered quitting parliamentahead of last year's federal election because of her party's policies.
Dr LAWRENCE quit the front bench last week in protest at her party's policy to maintainmandatory detention for asylum seekers.
She's told ABC radio today she thought about quitting politics last year when thenOpposition Leader KIM BEAZLEY supported the government's decision to send SAS troops ontothe cargo ship Tampa after it rescued asylum seekers.
She also denies her resignation is disloyal to her colleagues, saying the people who'vesupported her in her tough times are the same ones supporting her stand now.
