ANTI-ABORTIONISTS SHUT CLINIC.(Local)

The director of a group of Planned Parenthood clinics Thursday blasted local police for failing to challenge more than 250 anti-abortion activists who shut down the organization's Route 9 health clinic.

"I'm more and more upset by the lack of any effort to have the place cleared," said Ruth Klepper, executive director for Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood Association. "They could have called in state troopers."

But Columbia County District Attorney Paul Czajka defended the police decision, saying the strategy was aimed at maintaining order with a limited number of local, county and state police available. Greenport has only two police officers and a limited number of sheriff's deputies …
