FED:Timeline of events so far in Pulver case
Timeline of events in the Madeleine Pulver bomb hoax case:
August 3, Wednesday:
* Sometime before 2.30pm (AEST) a balaclava-clad male breaks into the Mosman family
home of Madeleine Pulver and corners the 18-year-old schoolgirl.
* About 2.30pm police are called and told an intruder has chained a bomb around Madeleine's
neck before fleeing.
* Police send local officers Constable Karen Lowden and a probationary constable to
the Pulver home in Burrawong Avenue.
* Police lock down the area, barricading side streets and evacuating neighbours living
adjacent to the Pulver home.
* Officer Lowden begins her own three-hour ordeal, keeping Madeleine company and chatting
with her about her HSC trials. Both believe the device is a bomb.
* Scores of emergency personnel including the Bomb Squad technicians, police negotiators,
firefighters and paramedics arrive.
* Around 4pm media converge on the area and report live throughout the night and into
the next day.
* Bomb Squad technicians moves into the house around 5.30pm and try to determine the
contents of the suspected bomb. Officer Lowden leaves the home.
August 4, Thursday:
* About 12.30am, the Bomb Squad safely removes the device from around Madeleine's neck
and paramedics take her to hospital where she is evaluated and released.
* Later police say the elaborate device did not contain explosives.
* Father Bill Pulver, with wife Belinda, thanks officers and personnel who helped his
daughter during her ordeal.
* Police strike force Haddon is set up to investigate.
August 8, Monday:
* Businessman Paul "Doug" Peters allegedly departs Sydney on a flight to the United States.
* Madeleine returns to Wenona School, where she is a student and prepares to sit HSC trial exams.
August 9-15:
* NSW Police request help from the US FBI to find and arrest Mr Peters.
August 16, Tuesday:
* About 6am (AEST) Sydney time, an FBI SWAT team arrests Mr Peters at the home of his
ex-wife in La Grange, 50km from Louisville, ahead of an expected court appearance the
following day.
* Mr Pulver hopes "this development marks the beginning of the end of this traumatic
ordeal for our family".
